Whether the Fire TV remote suddenly stopped working, or never
worked out of the box, there are a number of reasons that can cause the issue.
Some of the common problems reported by users and how to fix them, as well as
the reasons why the amazon fire stick remote not working for you.
(a) Battery Problem: While the technology that goes into
the Amazon Fire TV Stick Remote may differ widely from traditional IR remotes,
it still works on standard AAA batteries. The most common problem users have
with the Fire TV remote is when the device is running on a low battery. Unlike
regular remotes, which tend to work longer even on low batteries, the Amazon
Fire TV's Bluetooth-based remote degrades when the battery runs low, causing it
to a malfunction or fail to function shuts off.
Fix: Remove the back of your Amazon Fire
TV and take out the battery. Make sure you re-install them in the correct order.
If the batteries in your Fire TV remote
are a few months old, try replacing them. For better performance try using
alkaline batteries (1.5V) instead of rechargeable batteries (1.2V). If you made
sure that the batteries were put in the correct order and even tried to replace
them, the issue with the Amazon Fire Stick Remote not working seems to be
something else.
(b)Unsuccessful Pairing: On your regular TV remote, there is
a set frequency for the IR remote and receiver at which they are connected and
operated. As we have already mentioned, the remote you get with your Amazon
Fire TV is Bluetooth-based, not IR-based. This is why first you need to
establish a successful coupled connection with the Fire TV Stick before you can
start using it.
Fix: Connect the Fire TV stick to an HDMI
port on the back of your HDTV and plug it into the micro USB cable to provide
power. Switch the HDMI channel to which the Fire TV stick is connected and wait
for the Fire TV to boot. Bring the remote closer to the Fire TV and then press
and hold the home button on the remote.
Hold the home button for about 10 seconds and then release
it. The Fire TV remote should now become responsive and you should be able to
use it with your streaming device. If you do not have to work immediately, you
may have to repeat the above steps twice. However, if this solution does not
work for you or does not work as you would have intended for it, then continue
below to resolve the issue that caused the Amazon Fire Stick Remote not to
work.
(c)Poor Range: Amazon Fire makes the TV Stick Remote
effectively better than the old IR remote because it is Bluetooth-based, so you
don't need a clear line between the remote and the device that is plugged into
the back of your HDTV. However, like every other wireless connectivity
technology, Bluetooth also has a fixed limit, after which it either works less
than expected or none at all.
Fix: If you are operating a remote in a
large room, try to move any obstruction between the TV and the Fire TV Stick
Remote. Try to get closer to the back of your TV where the Fire TV Stick and is
connected to see if it works in close range. Use the extension cable provided
with the Amazon Fire TV to bring the dongle out from the back of the TV, which
improves connectivity with the remote. If the HDTV is placed in an enclosure or
cabinet, open it and see if the remote works to detect if the interruption is
the problem here.
(d)Interference:
If all the problems mentioned
above are not the problem, then the problem may be further here. While
Bluetooth technology has a variety of advantages over traditional infrared, it
also poses a risk of interference if it comes to any other connectivity
technology. The elements below are known to interfere with Bluetooth's
effectiveness and range.
Microwave Radiation (Microwave Oven). Wireless Speaker (Bluetooth Channel Interference) Uneducated coaxial cable
If you have any of these devices close to the TV and fire
stick, remove them from the surrounding area and try to operate the remote
again. However, if it doesn't fix the Amazon Fire Stick Remote problem, it
doesn't work, with only one solution left.
(e)Faltering Remote:
While the Amazon Fire TV is
built with its remote, it is a technology that can always face issues. If you
have a Fire TV stick for enough time, there is a possibility of disturbances
and wear and tear, even if it does not seem obvious, or you may have found a
small end of the stick with a malfunction. Either way, replacing the Amazon
Fire TV remote with an official one may be your only hope.
Remember, you will have to pair the new remote again with
your Fire TV stick, so you need to follow these steps to do it:
Fix: Connect the Amazon Fire TV Stick to
the HDTV and turn it on. Bring the new remote closer to the Fire TV. Force down
and hold the “Home” button on the
remote. Hold the home button for about 10 seconds and then release it. The new
Amazon Fire TV Stick Remote should now be paired with your streaming device and
ready for use.
There can be a lot of reasons behind the Amazon Fire Stick Remote not working, and we've tried to diagnose
each of the above.
